About Edmonton

Located approximately 350 km east of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Edmonton is Alberta’s capital city. With a population of approximately 1 million people, Edmonton is a thriving industrial and commercial metropolis which continues to grow.  Edmonton is a delightful combination of tradition and innovation, parkland and urban pleasures, sports and the arts, shopping and hospitality.  Alberta has a strong economy and we are privileged to have the lowest taxes in the country, including no provincial sales tax.

Known as "Festival City", Edmonton has over 30 annual festivals and particularly earns the title in summer when Edmontonians take advantage of the long days with many theatre, music and cultural events.  The city also hosts professional hockey (Oilers & Oil Kings), football (Eskimos), baseball (Capitals), and lacrosse (Rush) teams.

For more information in general see the City of Edmonton website (www.edmonton.ca).  For information about locally owned restaurants and shops see (http://www.live-local.ca).
