Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital

The Glenrose is the home base hospital for the residents studying in PM & R. It is located in downtown Edmonton, Alberta and is the largest freestanding comprehensive tertiary rehabilitation center in North America. This facility was opened in 1964 and it offers services to children and adults on an inpatient, outpatient, day patient and outreach basis. The Glenrose has developed an international reputation for excellence in rehabilitation and specialized geriatrics.

In addition, the Glenrose is the centre of excellence for autism,fetal alcoholsyndrome disorderand movement disorder programs. It also houses the Syncrude Centre for motion & balance, library services, I CAN Centre for assistive technology, therapeutic pool, gymnasium, spasticity program and so much more. It was the first hospital in Canada to study Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (the bionic arm) for upper-limb amputation rehabilitation.

University of Alberta Hospital

The UAH is a teaching hospital located on the South side of Edmonton on the University of Alberta campus. The Stollery Children's Hospital, as well as the brand new Mazankowski Alberta Heart Instituteare directly connected to the UAH.

The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute provides cardiac care to Albertans, NWT, Yukon and northern BC residents.

The UAH has over 650 beds and provides specialized services in neurosciences, surgery, medicine, critical care, emergency, trauma and burn care. There is also an organ and transplant tissue program which is a national leader. Residents will do rotations during their basic clinical training year at this location, as well as neurology and orthopedics. Some of our physiatrists perform consults to determine the appropriateness of the patients for the various rehab programs (ex. stroke) the Glenrose offers.

Royal Alexandra Hospital

The RAH is located in Edmonton’s city centre and directly across from the Glenrose RehabilitationHospital. It provides care in medicine, obstetricsand surgery, as well as emergency services. The Lois Hole Hospital for Women is also located on the RAH campus.Residents will do rotations during their basic clinical training year at this location. Some of our physiatrists perform consults to determine the appropriateness of the patients for the various rehab programs (ex. stroke) the Glenrose offers.

Grey Nuns Hospital

The Grey Nuns Hospital is located on the South side of Edmonton. Services provided include emergency, general and vascular surgery, intensive and cardiac care, general medicine, children's health, women's health, diagnostics, mental health and ambulatory care. Some residents will do their emergency medicine and/or CCU rotations at this hospital. Misericordia Hospital

The Misericordia Hospital is located on the West end of Edmonton. It is an acute care facility which is home to one of the world class facility for reconstruction of the face, head and neck. It also provides services in emergency, surgery, general medicine, urology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, ICU, CCU, pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, women’s health, diagnostics and ambulatory care. Some residents will do their emergency medicine rotation at this site. Some of our physiatrists perform consults to determine the appropriateness of the patients for the various rehab programs (ex. stroke) the Glenrose offers.

Cross Cancer Institute

The Cross Cancer Institute is a facility which provides comprehensive cancer care for all of northern Alberta residents. Research is also conducted through the Alberta Cancer Research Institute. Residents will rotate through this site for their cancer rehabilitation rotation.

Edmonton General Hospital

The Edmonton General Hospital is located in the downtown area. Residents are required to do their pulmonary rehabilitation rotation at this hospital. The pulmonary program is called Breath Easy. Residents will rotate through this site for theirpulmonary rehabilitation rotation.

Glen Sather

The Glen Satherclinic specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of orthopedic and sports related injuriesfor competitive and recreationally active athletes. Residents will have the opportunity to work in this clinic as part of their musculoskeletal rotation.

HealthPointe

HealthPointe is a medical clinic which specializes in diagnosing and treating neck and back pain, general musculoskeletal physiatry, sports medicine, electrodiagnostic services, and diagnostic interventional services. It is located in the HYS Centre directly across from the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Residents will have the opportunity to work in this clinic as part of their musculoskeletal rotation.

LifeMark Health Institute

LifeMark provides an interdisciplinary patient-centered approach to issues such as chronic pain, acute rehabilitation and occupational services for individuals and corporations. Residents will have the opportunity to work in this clinic as part of their musculoskeletal rotation.

Millard Centre

The Millard Centre is utilized by the residents for their musculoskeletal rotation. The Millard Health Centre is progressive health care management organization owned by the Workers compensation board of Alberta.

Lacombe Hospital

The Lacombe Hospitalprovides services includingacute care, continuing care, and emergency services. There is a physiatrist working at this hospital in the area of diagnostic interventionalservices.

Centre for Lung Health

Located within the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, the Centre for Lung Health serves patients with respiratory illnesses.The Breathe Easy Program provides respiratoryrehabilitation to Albertans withchronic lung disease.
